MRA Scans
MRA Scans (Magnetic Resonance Angiogram), is a type of MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan that uses a magnetic field and radio wave energy pulses in order to provide images of blood vessels inside the body.
MRA’s are necessary in certain cases, as they can provide information that cannot be obtained from CT scans, ultrasounds, or X-rays. MRA’s are useful for finding problems with the blood vessels that may be causing reduced blood flow. MRA’s often look for aneurysms, clots, or calcium deposits in blood vessels, as well as the narrowing (stenosis) of the blood vessels leading to the lungs, legs, or kidneys.
During an MRA, the area of body being studies is placed inside an MRI machine.
MRA tests usually take only 30-90 minutes.
